BACKGROUND/HISTORY
PART A: Previous experience in grant writing can highlight several of the challenges presented by the grantsmanship process (Gitlin et al., 2021). As a seasoned professional in a corporate engineering grant environment for infrastructure development in Houston, TX (1997–present), I’ve since shifted to a dual role as a nonprofit founder, president, treasurer, and executive director (since 2022 for https://j2rrinc.org), highlighting multiple hurdles. Obstacles include the importance of conducting extensive research and identifying funders who have the same goals as the project, the need to understand and meet the unique, frequently complex application requirements for each funder, and writing compelling proposals supported by evidence-based data showing project viability and impact (Community Tool Box [CTB], 1994-2025; Gitlin et al., 2021). Furthermore, developing and maintaining partnerships with funders (particularly in highly competitive and technology-rich societies) complicates the process. For Hensley and Atkinson’s (2026, para. 20) “Project Spero,” the additional challenge lies in showing organizational capacity, sustainability, and governance in ways that meet funders’ expectations, especially in contexts where rural or underfunded groups may be seen as less developed or sustainable (Hensley & Atkinson, 2026; One Spartanburg Inc., 2026; Rural Health Information Hub [RHIH], 2025). In the midst of nonprofit leadership roles requiring greater transparency (emphasizing meeting community needs such as infrastructure improvement, training, and/or social change) lies accountability of funds disbursed and fraud prevention. Once awarded, funding should/could be directed towards projects that utilize information systems management (ISM), geo-spatial technologies, and artificial intelligence (AI) under mindful human monitoring to enhance early identification and response to crises (Handoyo et al., 2024). Subsequently, contributing to overall community resilience and human well-being.
Part B: Since February 2024 (e.g., ‘98_WORKING_J2 PROPOSAL…’) below, my proposed project idea is the development of one programming initiative that is a “Save Humanity From Itself Intelligently (SFHII)” blended with a “Make America Happy, Free, Safe & Smart Again (MAHFSSA)” goal of implementing the project by 2030 (in alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals [UN SDGs] & United States [USA] Golden Dome initiatives) (Arms Control Association [ACA], 2025). It is an effort to contain and reduce the impact of crisis-induced harm through integrated ISM, geo-spatial technology, and AI, by putting more human supervision in site-specific area(s) (Handoyo et al., 2024).

The project responds to urgent crises by supporting early damage assessment and mitigations that are evidence-based, environmentally safe, and socially responsible. Potential funders would be drawn to this project due to its use of the latest technologies in application, paired with an approach focused social impact/sustainability, which differentiates it from other programs that offer one-track solutions for technology or social services without such integration at the core of a program. Moreover, the focus on data-driven interventions and alignment with current funder/governmental priorities (e.g., social justice, inclusion of underrepresented [URM] recipients, and strengthening of capacity) can also be a major draw (American Occupational Therapy Foundation [AOTF], 2026). This approach underscores an investment in innovative, interdisciplinary solutions to complex societal problems (e.g., poverty & starvation eliminated with remote job creation), satisfying a financier group’s drive to fund project results associated with measurable and transformative improvements.
